Is children's dental care really free?

For eligible children we bulk-bill the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), so there's no out-of-pocket cost — up to $1,158 of care over two calendar years. We'll check your child's eligibility and remaining balance for you.

At what age should my child first see a dentist?

It's recommended children have their first dental visit by around age one, or within six months of their first tooth appearing.

How do I know if my child is eligible for the CDBS?

Children aged 0–17 are generally eligible if your family receives Family Tax Benefit Part A or another eligible payment, and you're eligible for Medicare. Bring your Medicare card and we'll confirm it.

What does the CDBS cover?

It covers check-ups, X-rays, cleans, fluoride, fissure sealants, fillings, root canals and extractions. It doesn't cover orthodontics, cosmetic treatments or care in hospital.

My child is nervous — can you help?

Absolutely. We're used to nervous little ones and take a calm, gentle, unhurried approach so your child can build trust at their own pace.

What if my child isn't eligible for the CDBS?

No problem — our family fees are affordable, and we offer on-the-spot HICAPS rebates if you have private health cover with extras.
